Ian Stafford, aged 58, who until recently was mayor of Preesall near Preston, has been bailed to appear before magistrates. Mr Stafford, who works as a handyman and gardener, has now resigned from his civic post and another councillor has taken over. A spokesman for the town council confirmed that as a result of Mr Stafford's arrest he had stood down
